Practice Areas

We provide firearms identification training to law enforcement officers, Michigan (MCOLES) police academies, FFL’s, government attorneys and to defense attorneys.  Our firearms identification training program concentrates on the firearms which fall under the purview of the National Firearms Act of 1934 (“NFA”) and the Gun Control Act of 1968 (“GCA”).

The GCA firearms portion of the class teaches firearms safe handling, safe unloading protocols, firearm identification (pistol, revolver, rifle, and shotgun), and the markings on various types of firearms.  We also discuss ammunition identification.

The NFA portion of the class concentrates on the eight types (classification) of firearms in the National Firearms Act, which includes Machineguns, Silencers, Weapon Made From a Rifle, Short Barreled Rifle, Weapon Made From a Shotgun, Short Barreled Shotgun, Any Other Weapon, and Destructive Devices.  The training class covers safe handling, firearms identification, definitions, firearm markings, short barrel shotgun/rifle measuring, and machinegun field function test. 

There are many types of GCA and NFA firearms (“prop guns”) in class to physically examine, handle, correctly identify, and to learn from in the classroom.  This includes training on how to identify machinegun conversion devices to include the “Glock Switch”, AR-15 “Drop in Auto Sear”, and the Lightning Link.  Homemade firearms commonly referred to as “Ghost Guns” are also discussed.

For the Michigan law enforcement agencies and police academies receiving this training, we also discuss the Michigan Compiled Law firearm definitions as well as the Federal firearms definitions.
